Inspections & TestingNew York State has adopted The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators (ASME A17.1) as the official standard used by all jurisdictions in New York State relative to elevator code enforcement and is also the National Standard. This code applies to the installation, testing, inspection, maintenance, alteration, and repair of elevators and alternate moving devices.
The frequency of periodic inspections and tests are governed by Table N1 of ASME A17.1; it states that the frequency of periodic inspections and tests shall be established by the AHJ, or Authority Having Jurisdiction. ASME A17.1 also provides a list of recommended inspection and test intervals in months per type of unit. ALPS can provide this to you upon request. Description of Inspection & Testing Services We file copies of each inspection & test report with your local jurisdictional authority. In addition, we visit your site 6 months from the month of your last inspection to ensure your inspection deadlines are met. We also contact your maintenance company quarterly to let them know when your tests are due. If required, we can also perform a follow-up inspection to document that any violations have been fixed or corrected (by your maintenance company) and to ensure proper compliance with required paperwork to the appropriate authorities. We are always available to our customers to discuss any concerns regarding their elevators both prior to and after the inspection. As a third-party provider, we do not recommend nor endorse any maintenance contractors. Our staff is available to provide any technical information to you that you or your maintenance contractor may need to help eliminate a specific violation. If you have any questions about your inspection reports or codes, we encourage you to contact us. |
